Motorcyclist 'critically injured' in Gresham hit-and-run; police searching for suspect

The victim was knocked off his motorcycle and then run over by the driver, who later abandoned his car to flee on foot, Gresham Police said.

GRESHAM, Ore. — The Gresham Police Department is asking for help to identify a suspect involved in a hit-and-run crash on New Year's Eve.

On Dec. 31, police and medical personnel responded to a report of a traffic collision around 10:30 p.m. on Southeast Division Street and Southeast 202 Avenue involving a motorcycle and a red Chevy Aveo.

The driver of the Chevy Aveo had rear-ended the motorcycle rider, knocking him off his bike, then ran him over as the driver fled the scene.

Witnesses showed officers a nearby side street where the Chevy was last seen. When officers approached, the driver and a passenger got out of the car to flee on foot, abandoning the vehicle. Officers were not able to locate them, Gresham Police said.

The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital, where he was last reported to be in critical condition.

The East Metro Vehicular Crimes Team (VCT) is investigating. Police provided a link to a YouTube video with short video snippets of the suspect. If anyone recognizes the suspect or passenger, they are asked to call the Gresham Police tip line at 503-618-2719.

This is a developing story and may be updated with more details as they emerge.
