Portland police release photo of suspect vehicle in fatal Christmas morning hit-and-run

David Wayne Becker, 63, died after being struck by a vehicle early Christmas morning, the Portland Police Bureau said.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle early Christmas morning in Southeast Portland, according to the Portland Police Bureau. The agency released the man's identity in an update on Jan. 2.

An off-duty Portland police officer discovered the pedestrian on Southeast Stark Street at Southeast 106th Avenue around 12:19 a.m. on Dec. 25. The driver had fled the scene, according to Portland police.

The officer called 911 and provided first aid to the pedestrian, who was then transported to the hospital but died, PBB said. He was identified Tuesday as David Wayne Becker, 63, of Portland.

The Major Crash Team investigated, and Southeast Stark Street was closed at Southeast 106th Avenue for several hours after the crash.

PPB released information about the suspect's vehicle on Wednesday, hoping to prompt tips from the public. The suspect vehicle is described as a late 2000s or mid-2010 maroon Dodge Ram pickup truck with full-size, four-door cab. The truck has a broken headlight and damage to the front corner on the driver's side due to the crash. Police released a surveillance photo of the suspect truck along with a stock image of a similar model and color truck.
