GRESHAM, Ore. — A woman was struck by a vehicle and killed Friday afternoon in Gresham, prompting a closure of the surrounding streets for about two hours while police investigated.

Police responded at about 5:15 p.m. to a report of a traffic collision involving a pedestrian on Southeast 182nd Avenue near the intersection with Southeast Stephens Street, according to a news release from the Gresham Police Department. The news release did not identify the pedestrian.

An off-duty paramedic was nearby and provided initial medical care until police and additional emergency medical personnel arrived, but the woman ultimately died from her injuries. She had been crossing the street and was not using a crosswalk at the time of the crash, police said. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Traffic along 182nd Avenue was shut down between Southeast Division and Main streets for the investigation and reopened at 8 p.m., police said. Investigators are working to determine if speed or impairment were factors in the collision. No arrests have been made.

Anyone who witnessed the collision who has not already spoken to police is asked to call the Gresham police tip line at 503-618-2719.

The crash is Gresham's 15th traffic fatality this year, police said.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
