Coworkers, police search for missing Vancouver woman in 'suspicious' case

Cristina Ase was last seen on March 26, and police said her disappearance is "far outside" her normal pattern of behavior.

WEST LINN, Ore. — Vancouver police and community members are still looking for a woman who went missing last week, in a case police are calling "suspicious."

Cristina Ase, 61, disappeared on Tuesday, March 26. Coworkers reported her absence to police after she didn't show up to work. Ase works as the nursing director at the Rose Linn Care Center, a skilled nursing facility in West Linn that specializes in long-term care.

"She’s a deeply missed person, by us, by her family, by those she cares for, we’re all riddled with anxiety and just want her back safe and sound," said Brady Waldroff, executive director of the Rose Linn Care Center.

Waldroff said Ase is a reliable, timely and caring person and her absence has been difficult for the staff.

The Vancouver Police Department said Ase was last seen on the morning of March 26, and her disappearance is "far outside" of her normal pattern of behavior. There’s no person of interest in the case, and her family and friends are working with police to try and find her.

Last week, coworkers searched for Ase around her home in Vancouver, near her job in West Linn and elsewhere.

“We put up missing signs and talked to people in those areas to see if they had experienced anything, seen anything, to try to generate any leads," Waldroff said.

Police previously reported that Ase's car was found in Vancouver the day after her disappearance, and Waldroff said it was two coworkers who found the car on a street near her apartment — but there weren't any issues or concerning signs with it. As of now, Waldroff said there's a lack of any usable information to help find her.

"I know the police play things close to the chest if they have any leads, they have to protect their investigation and their process, but for us there’s no update," he said.

The Vancouver, Portland and West Linn Police departments are all working on the investigation.

"We care about each other as a family, we do the work we do for other families as a family, and missing her isn’t missing a coworker it’s missing one of our family members," Waldroff said.

Vancouver Police are asking anyone who knows Ase, had contact with her in the past few weeks, or might know something about her disappearance, to please contact them.

The department asks community members to email Detective Nicholson at Jason.nicholson@cityofvancouver.us or Sergeant Ballou at Julie.ballou@cityofvancouver.us with any information.
