Pedestrian dead after being hit by delivery van in Salem

SALEM, Ore. — Police are asking for witnesses to come forward after a Salem man died after being hit by a delivery van Saturday evening.

While traveling north on Cordon Road, south of the Highway 22E overpass, the driver of the delivery van said he struck what appeared to be a pedestrian. When Salem Police arrived, they located a dead 23-year-old man off the west shoulder of the road. 

Police have identified the man as Kiristian Murauo.

There is no crosswalk or overhead street lighting in the area, according to police. 

The driver, Justin Rodriguez, 35, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. There have been no arrests made.

Investigators want to speak with a person who may have witnessed the crash: a motorist, described as driving an unknown model Jeep vehicle, who was traveling south on Cordon Road.
