On June 16, 2020, officers responded to reports of a stabbing near 1400 block of Northeast Davis Street. Officers found 39-year-old Najaf “Nate” Hobbs dead at the scene. Cassy Leaton, 22, later died in the hospital.

The suspect, later identified at Phillip Lawrence Nelson, 42, had fled the scene before officers arrived.

Nelson was arrested and placed into custody two days later, where he has remained ever since. He is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.

Sentencing for Nelson is scheduled for May 24.
