Towing made the list of top 10 consumer complaints for the first time ever.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum on Friday released the Oregon Department of Justice’s annual list of top 10 consumer complaints.

In 2018, the Attorney General’s Consumer Hotline received 38,000 phone calls, which resulted in more than 7,000 written complaints.

Here’s the top 10 list for 2018:

  1. Telecommunications
  2. Auto – Sales & Repair
  3. Fraudulent Entity
  4. Financial/Credit/Lending
  5. Real Estate/Property Management
  6. Travel Services/Products
  7. Towing
  8. Insurance
  9. Telemarketing
  10. Medical Services/Products

Towing made the list for the first time ever, Rosenblum said. The towing complaints ranged from being wrongfully towed to improper signage by towing companies.

Rosenblum warned Oregonians to always remain cautious.

“The best way to stay safe is to just hang up the phone on telephone scammers, and if something seems too good to be true, it probably is! Today’s scammers are quick, sophisticated, and will take your money in a few seconds if they can. Be on the look-out for any suspicious deals, or if something does not seem right. Scammers are everywhere you are—they will reach through email, text, the phone or a knock on your door. Our hotline is open on weekdays, and available to assist Oregonians who need help,” Rosenblum said in a news release.

If you think you’re a victim to fraud of scam, you call the Oregon Department of Justice hotline at 1-877-877-9392 or file a complaint online.
