VANCOUVER, Wash. — California-based fast food chain In-N-Out has proposed yet another location in the Portland metro area, this time on Vancouver's east side.
A spokesperson for the city of Vancouver confirmed that In-N-Out submitted a commercial development pre-application for 13511 Southeast 3rd Way, at the intersection with Mill Plain Boulevard.
The application was submitted April 15 for a 3,800-square-foot restaurant, including a drive-thru and outdoor seating, the city said. A pre-application conference is set for May 9, and the chain has yet to submit for building permits.
"The pre-application process is the first step in the land use planning process that the site needs to go through before building permits can be applied for," the city of Vancouver spokesperson said.
Once a pre-application meeting happens, the developer has a year to move the project to the next stage or must start the process over.
"Once we begin construction on a new location, it usually takes us eight to nine months to build the restaurant and open for business. Therefore, it would be premature to comment on a timeline for an opening date or when we will even get our development application approval," said Mike Abbate, the Vice President of Store Development, in a statement.
Earlier this month, In-N-Out submitted a land use application in Washington County for a possible location at 10565 Southwest Beaverton Hillsdale Highway. This location is also relatively early in the permitting process.
In February, In-N-Out Burger filed a development application with the city of Ridgefield in Washington state — and the restaurant chain later made an official announcement suggesting that the location could open in 2025.
Currently, the closest location to the Portland metro area is in Keizer. There are just four In-N-Out locations in Oregon, including in Keizer, Grants Pass, Medford and Roseburg. So far, there's been no sign of the restaurant moving directly into Portland or Multnomah County.
