Portland area to see 70-degree days and stretch of dry weather. Here's what to expect

The Portland metro area could see at least four straight days of completely dry weather.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The official first day of spring is right around the corner and so is warmer, dry weather. The Portland metro area could see at least four straight days of completely dry weather, along with high temperatures in the 70s.

Wednesday afternoon began the stretch of dry days. The warm-up will start Thursday afternoon, with highs in the mid-60s. Friday should bring the first 70-degree day of the year, according to KGW meteorologist Rod Hill. Saturday and Sunday will be the warmest of the stretch, with highs forecasted to be in the low to mid-70s.

"Confidence at this point is about as high as it can be that we will have a 70-something degree, clear sky, light wind weekend here in the Willamette Valley and up into southwest Washington," Hill said Wednesday morning.

On March 13, 2024, KGW meteorologist Rod Hill shared a graphic of expected high temperatures for each day going into the weekend.

The last time the Rose City saw a 70-degree day was on Oct. 20, 2023. It's been nearly four months since there was a long run of dry weather. The last time that happened was last year from Nov. 23 to Nov. 29.

"There have only been two runs all winter, going back to Dec. 1, in fact, where we had three consecutive dry days. That's happened twice," Hill said. "We've never had a run of four consecutive dry days since last fall, in fact."

Hill said weather models show the possibility of some rain returning on Wednesday or Thursday next week.

"The back half of March looks like it's going to be, not cold, but close to normal with the typical amount of showery weather coming," he said.

The first official day of spring is Tuesday, March 19.
