Interstate Bridge northbound lanes will be closed briefly throughout the weekend for inspection

All northbound lanes of the Interstate Bridge will be closed from 11 p.m. Saturday through 7 a.m. Sunday, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

PORTLAND, Ore. — All northbound lanes of the Interstate Bridge will be closed late Saturday night through early Sunday morning for the bridge's usual inspection that happens every two years.

The bridge will be closed from 11 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) said.

A team will inspect the bridge's "most critical steel members as part of the analysis to make sure the structure remains sound," according to ODOT. Crews will also build a sign and replace traffic control lights over the northbound lanes during the closure.

The Jantzen Beach onramp to northbound Interstate 5 will be closed. The sidewalk on the northbound span will be also closed, but the southbound span's sidewalk will be open.

As a detour, Washington-bound traffic should take Interstate 84 east to Interstate 205 north across the Glenn Jackson Bridge over the Columbia River, ODOT said.

The northbound span opened in 1917, according to ODOT.
