CORVALLIS, Ore. — Oregon State will be looking for a new starting quarterback next season.

Less than a week after head coach Jonathan Smith left the program to coach at Michigan State, starting quarterback DJ Uiagalelei announced in a social media post Thursday that he's entering the NCAA transfer portal.

Uiagalelei, who transferred from Clemson to Oregon State after the 2022 season, had a successful season in Corvallis, leading the Beavers to an 8-4 record. He threw for 2,638 yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

According to ESPN, Uiagalelei will decide in the coming weeks if he'll transfer to a third college or declare for the NFL draft.

In his social post, Uiagalelei thanked Oregon State's fan base, his teammates, coaches and God before announcing his decision to enter the transfer portal.

Other quarterbacks on Oregon State's roster include incoming sophomores Aidan Chiles, Dom Montiel and Travis Throckmorton, and incoming junior Ben Gulbranson, Chiles was the Beavers' top recruit last offseason, according to 247sports.

On Wednesday, Oregon State introduced Trent Bray, its new head coach. Bray was the team's defensive coordinator. He said he won't be coaching in Oregon State's bowl game, instead choosing to focus on recruiting and filling out his coaching staff.

Oregon State is waiting to learn its bowl destination, which should be announced Sunday.
