Central Catholic wins Oregon 6A football championship; Wilsonville crowned 5A champs

Central Catholic beat Tualatin 49-21, while Wilsonville rallied to defeat Mountain View 29-23.

HILLSBORO, Ore. — Central Catholic beat Tualatin 49-21 to win the Oregon 6A high school football championship on Friday at Hillsboro Stadium.

Quarterback Cru Newman led the way for the Rams, passing for 346 yards and a score and rushing for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

Central Catholic outgained Tualatin 639-324 in yards of offense, including a 290-97 advantage on the ground.

Three other Central Catholic players rushed for touchdowns. Killian Sombe had five rushes for 85 yards and a score, Tyson Davis rushed seven times for 69 yards and a touchdown, and D’Marieon Gates scored a touchdown on two carries for 33 yards.

Landon Kelsey led the Rams in receiving with four catches for 138 yards and a touchdown.

GAME SUMMARY: Central Catholic 49, Tualatin 21

It was a one-score game at halftime with Central Catholic leading 28-21, but the Rams took control in the second half, outscoring Tualatin 21-0.

For Tualatin, Nolan Keeney completed 11 of 14 passes for 167 yards and two touchdowns, and Jayden Fortier had seven catches for 85 yards and a score, all in the first half. Keeney and Fortier were both injured in the first half and didn’t return to the game. AJ Noland had three catches for 76 yards and a touchdown.

Wilsonville wins 5A championship

Wilsonville quarterback Kallen Gutridge threw two touchdowns to Nick Crowley in the fourth quarter to lead the Wildcats back from a 13-point deficit and defeat Mountain View 29-23 in the Oregon 5A football championship game on Friday at Hillsboro Stadium.

Mountain View jumped out to a 20-7 lead early in the third quarter, but Wilsonville got the comeback started with a 55-yard touchdown pass from Gutridge to Mark Wiepert on fourth down late in the third quarter.

GAME SUMMARY: Wilsonville 29, Mountain View 23

Gutridge threw for 291 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 87 yards. Crowley had five catches for 111 yards and two scores, and Wiepert and Nick Colyer both caught touchdown passes.

Mountain View was led by Connor Crum, who threw for 136 yards and a touchdown and also had a rushing touchdown. Jack Foley caught a touchdown pass. Connor Calvert kicked three field goals.

Wilsonville outgained Mountain View 384-235 in total yards.
