HILLSBORO, Ore. — The Hillsboro Hops' home has a new name. Ron Tonkin Field is now known as Hillsboro Ballpark, the baseball team announced Friday morning.

This isn't the first time the venue has been named Hillsboro Ballpark. That was its original name before the Hops, the Tonkin family and the city of Hillsboro entered a decade-long naming rights deal. In 2014, the ballpark was renamed Ron Tonkin Field in honor of Ed and Brad Tonkin's father, local auto magnate Ron Tonkin, who died the same year at the age of 82.

"We are proud to have been affiliated with such a fine organization as the Hillsboro Hops and to be part of the community," said Ed Tonkin.

He and his son, Adam Tonkin, joined the Hops' ownership group in 2022.

"We are very thankful for the decade-long commitment and partnership with Ed, Brad & Adam and the entire Tonkin Family of Dealerships," said K.L. Wombacher, Hops' president and general manager. "Ed & Adam will continue to be involved with the Hops Ownership group and we thank them for their commitment to the Hops and City of Hillsboro."

The team recently secured full funding for a new $120 million ballpark. The new, larger stadium will replace three smaller fields in the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex and double as a year-round outdoor entertainment venue for concerts, festivals and community events.

The Hops have been playing in Hillsboro since 2014. They will open their 11th season in Hillsboro on April 5. They will take on Everett AquaSox, the Seattle Mariners' High-A affiliate.
