US Ski and Snowboard teams training on Mount Hood

Mount Hood is an official training site for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams.

MOUNT HOOD, Ore. — Some of the best skiers and snowboarders are practicing on Mount Hood as part of their offseason training.

Timber Lodge and Ski Area is an official training site for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard teams and is one of the few places that have snow this late in the summer.

Some big names will take part in the camp, like Olympic medalists Nick Goepper, Red Gerard and Joss Christensen.

Hunter Henderson, who joined the ski team this spring, says the offseason camp is important as a way to keep in shape.

"Just coming out here and getting our tricks done in the summer, learning new ones. Keeping up with muscle memory is very important when it comes to competition season. If you haven't been training in the summer that makes it very hard to just hop right back in and compete with all the other guys," Henderson said.

The camp runs through July 18 and the public is invited to watch.
