A convicted sex offender pleaded guilty Wednesday to three unsolved murders in the Portland area.

PORTLAND -- A convicted sex offender pleaded guilty Wednesday to three unsolved murders in the Portland area.

Jeffrey Paul Cutlip, 63, was living in Brownsville, Texas when he called police in July, 2012 to confess his involvement in two murders. He was arrested and extradited to Portland the following month.

Less than two weeks later he was indicted in connection with a third death.

Cutlip pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated murder and two counts of murder in the deaths 44-year-old Marlene Carlson in 1975, 15-year-old Julie Bennett in 1977 and 33-year-old Nielene Doll in 1993.

His sentencing was scheduled for Decemeber 16.
