Police thwart possible attack on LA gay pride parade

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that a man armed with weapons and possibly explosives was en route to to Sunday's L.A. Gay Pride Festival.

Santa Monica Police arrested a man in Santa Monica who was reported to authorities as a suspected prowler.

According to the Times, the man said he was waiting for a friend. But when police inspected a car with Indiana license plates that was in the area, they discovered multiple weapons in the vehicle.

Police also discovered pipe bomb making ingredients.

L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti addressed the media Sunday afternoon and stated that the parade, which begins at 1:45 p.m. will go off as scheduled.

This incident comes hours after the deadliest mass shooting in United States history. 50 people were killed and 53 people were injured after a Port St. Lucie man, Omar Mateen. opened fire at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando.
