Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden's wife gives birth

U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden's wife, Nancy Bass Wyden, has given birth to a girl. It's the couple's third child.

PORTLAND -- U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden's wife, Nancy Bass Wyden, has given birth to a girl. It's the couple's third child.

Wyden's office says Scarlett Willa Wyden was born at 8:51 a.m. Thursday at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, and that the mother and newborn are doing fine. The girl weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces.

Nancy Bass Wyden is co-owner of New York's Strand Bookstore. She and the senator married in September 2005. She gave birth to twins in October 2007.

Wyden has two adult children from a previous marriage.

The 63-year-old Democrat was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996.
