EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - The mother of a University of Oregon freshman who died from meningococcal disease during a 2015 outbreak has filed a $2.5 million lawsuit against a Eugene hospital.

The Register-Guard reports that the lawsuit filed Monday claims medical negligence and the wrongful death of Lauren Camille Jones. She was the only person who died during the outbreak on UO's campus, although six other people came down with the infection.

Jones' mother, Dorian Sanders, is suing PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center, University District. The suit claims the hospital diagnosed Jones with a flu-like illness, although she tested negative for the flu and staff should have known about the UO outbreak.

The lawsuit says that prevented Jones form getting the treatment she needed.

PeaceHealth did not immediately return a phone call Monday.
