PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland police temporarily issued a shelter-in-place warning for residents in part of the Centennial neighborhood of Southeast Portland while they searched for a suspect Monday evening, eventually leading to an arrest.

The Portland Police Bureau said that officers responded around 4:50 p.m. to the area near Southeast 166th Avenue and Southeast Haig Drive, just north of Powell Boulevard, to assist U.S. Marshals who were trying to catch a "wanted subject." That person fled from officers and "may be armed," PPB said.

Portland's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT), the local version of SWAT, and the agency's crisis negotiation team responded.

The agency issued a shelter-in-place warning through the Public Alerts system, asking residents to stay indoors as officers searched the neighborhood. The full area being searched stretched from Southeast 164th Avenue to Southeast 167th Avenue and Southeast Haig Drive to Southeast Bush Street.

Shortly after 9 p.m., Portland police issued an update saying that the wanted man, identified as 25-year-old Zachary Drazner, was found hiding in a shed. He was taken into custody on multiple warrants.

This is a developing story and may be updated with more details as they emerge.
