PORTLAND, Ore — A worker at Zupan's Market on West Burnside Road tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus and is recovering at home, the grocery store chain said today.

The associate last worked on May 4, the company said in a news release.

Zupan's did not reveal the department where the infected person worked, but said the person "does not spend extended periods of time inside our store and is not responsible for handling or packaging any of our food."

Zupan's said it has cleaned the department with electrostatic sprayers and food- and hospital-grade disinfectant cleaner.

Additional deep cleaning has been performed in all high-traffic and high-touch areas throughout the Burnside store.

Following CDC guidelines, all associates at the Burnside location were notified and encouraged to self-monitor for symptoms. Employees who were in direct contact are being paid to self-quarantine.

No additional cases have been reported.

Zupan's Markets is a family-owned, Portland-based chain with three locations in the area.
