Portland World Naked Bike Ride canceled, sort of

Organizers said while there will be no official, specific start time and location, enthusiasts should still head out on their own if they wish.

PORTLAND, Oregon — (The video in this story is from the 2019 naked bike ride).

The official version of the Portland World Naked Bike ride, scheduled for June 27, has been canceled due to concerns over spreading the COVID-19 virus.

Organizers said while there will be no official, specific start time and location, enthusiasts should still head out on their own if they wish.

The ride draws thousands and is viewed with a bit of whimsy. Police tolerate the riders wearing nothing, while encouraging them to wear a helmet.

Nudity is not legal in Portland, unless it's part of a protest. The Naked Bike Ride is a protest against oil dependency and cycling safety. The ride encourages positive body self-esteem.
