The Marion County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a report of a "disturbance" involving a man "reportedly armed and firing gunshots."

SALEM, Ore. — A person is dead after a police shooting Friday morning outside of Salem.

Around 11 a.m., deputies with the Marion County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Arabian Avenue Southeast and Sorrel Court Southeast. Deputies said there was a report of a "disturbance" involving a man "reportedly armed and firing gunshots."

Law enforcement personnel from the Salem Police Department and Oregon State Police assisted deputies and found the suspect. At some point, the responding officers fired shots. The suspect was injured and medical aid was provided, but the suspect died, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.

No officers were injured.

Deputies have not identified the suspect and have not confirmed if they were armed, or whether officers seized any weapons. They have also not specified what kind of injury the suspect had, or whether they were hit by the shots that the officers fired.

KGW contacted officials for clarification and is waiting to hear back.

The Keizer Police Department and the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office will lead the investigation into the incident and will work with the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

There is no danger to the public, the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.

Several streets were blocked off at Macleay Road Southeast, Macleay Road Southeast and Caplinger Southeast, and 46th Place Southeast and Arabian.

This is a developing story and it will be updated when more information becomes available.
