PORTLAND, Ore. — Happening today, veterans looking for work can attend a job fair at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Northeast Portland, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The job fair is also meant for military spouses, reservists, National Guard members and transitioning military personnel. Almost 40 employers will be on site to fill hundreds of job openings.
According to Recruit Military, the U.S. is home to more than 20 million veterans, who offer a unique set of skills, experiences and leadership abilities. At the same time, many struggle to find a position in the civilian workforce, which is why job fairs like this one are so important.
“Really right now, what we are experiencing is an underemployment in the veteran population,” said RecruitMilitary spokesperson Merideth Cohrs. “With unemployment being at the lowest its been in so many years, a lot of veterans have jobs, but they might not be in the career they are hoping to be in long term.”
At the job fair, candidates will be able to network with recruiters, employers, educators, and others looking for a job.
