Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Portland this weekend

The 34th Portland Cinco De Mayo fiesta starts Friday at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, and lasts through the weekend.

PORTLAND, Ore. – The 34th Portland Cinco De Mayo fiesta starts Friday at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, and lasts through the weekend.

Festivities start at 11am Friday. Learn more about times and events, here.

The Portland Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, presented by The Portland Guadalajara Sister City Association (PGSCA), has always been a family oriented event at Waterfront Park. It’s a place where children can learn about the traditions of Mexico, and have hands-on fun, learning how to make arts and crafts.

The Plaza de Ninos is a dedicated area of the fiesta, designated for kids of all ages, and offers free face painting.

This year, the focus is all about tradition, culture, and education. You’ll find food, snacks, desserts and drinks, all from Mexico and Latin America, with signage and education of regional specialties.

You will also find featured educational attractions, including a history and tour of the tequila-making process, born from Guadalajara's state of Jalisco and a Reptile Exhibit featuring many critters from Mexico, including tortoises, iguanas and a Gila monster!

There’s also a renewed artisan area with hand-crafted tent facades, plus an artist, Mariano, who will unveil special art pieces that stand almost a dozen feet tall, and 22 feet long.
