PHOTOS | Chapel Hill loses another store as Macy's closes

Macy's closed its doors for good Saturday.

AKRON, Ohio -- What once filled two floors, the merchandise at Macy’s in Chapel Hill had been squeezed into a fraction of its vast space. Most of the clothing racks were gone, the jewelry cases were bare and the majority of ca-chinging cash registers were silenced.

As Macy’s prepared to close their doors at the Akron-area mall for good, the store slashed prices up to 80 percent off most items.

Their final day in business was Saturday (March 26).

It’s the latest in a string of store closings to hit Chapel Hill Mall.

Monday (March 28) will mark the final day of f.y.e., which is also offering reduced prices on everything in the store.

Shuttered storefronts are scattered throughout the mall just steps apart.

Pac Sun, Old Navy, Aeropostale and Express are among the notable names now absent from Chapel Hill.

Conversation on social media has many fearing Chapel Hill will share the same doomed fate as Rolling Acres, which now sits abandoned and decaying on the opposite side of Summit County.

JC Penney, Sears and a newly opened Party City remain the mall’s largest staples.
