Portland Parks & Recreation announced it will cancel it’s 2020 season of free movies and concerts in Portland parks including Washington Park Summer Festival.

In an email, Portland Parks and Recreations said they were canceling the yearly program due to financial challenges and uncertainty created by COVID-19. The cancelations also follow guidance from public health professionals about social distancing.

“Historically, summer preparations, hiring, and planning would occur during the spring and that is not possible this year,” Coordinator Jed Arkley said.

With their remaining resources, Arkey said his team will shift to supporting the Free Lunch + Play program which provides 100,000 free lunches and activities to kids and families in need.

Portland Parks & Recreation hopes to bring back Movies and Concerts in the Park for 2021.
