BEAVERTON, Ore. — A Portland man was arrested for masturbating at a Target store in Beaverton and faces a charge for felony public indecency, Washington County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) reported Tuesday. WCSO said they are searching for several witnesses, including two women who reported his inappropriate behavior to Target employees.
On March 9, around 2:30 p.m. deputies responded to reports of "suspicious activity" at a Target in Beaverton at 10775 Southwest Beaverton Hillsdale Highway. WCSO said that a Target employee called police when 83-year-old Gary Caughey was caught in a "state of self-gratification" in the view of shoppers.
Caughey left the store before police arrived; a store employee was able to note his car's license plate. He was later found and arrested at his Portland home on March 10, and was taken to the county jail, according to WCSO.
Investigators believe that other shoppers including minors were exposed to Caughey's inappropriate behavior inside the Target store between the hours of 1-4 p.m. on March 9, said WCSO.
Officials are seeking many witnesses including:
- Two white women ranging from ages 18 to 20: One woman has long blonde hair and was wearing a black shirt and dark-colored pants. The other woman is described to have long dark brown hair wearing a two-tone blue jacket and blue jeans, according to WCSO.
- A woman with two teens: One teen with long brown hair wearing yellow pants with purple Crocs and a red letterman-style jacket. The other teen is described as younger with long brown hair wearing a yellow short-sleeved shirt with light blue pants and white shoes. The woman with the teen is described to have long brown hair wearing a blue jacket with blue leggings.
- A man with two teens: One teen with long red hair, wearing a light brown t-shirt with the word "wild" in white lettering, blue jeans and carrying a belt bag. The second teen is described to have light brown and blonde hair, wearing a green sweatshirt, blue jeans and a belt bag. The man with the teen is described to be wearing a grey sweatshirt and blue jeans.
