PORTLAND, Ore. — A burglary suspect was arrested Tuesday morning following an hours-long search in the area of Southeast 82nd Avenue in Portland.

The man was arrested around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday. The search began at around 6 a.m. when Clackamas County Sheriff's deputies spotted a van they believed had been involved in recent burglaries. The driver of the van immediately sped away, crashed in the area of Southeast 82nd Avenue and Flavel Street, and then jumped out of the van and ran, according to the Portland Police Bureau (PPB).

A woman who was a passenger in the van was injured and taken to the hospital. PPB said it believes she'll survive.

Because the crash happened in the city of Portland, officers with PPB's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) responded to the scene and set up a perimeter. During the search, police closed down Southeast 82nd Avenue between Flavel and Duke Street and asked anyone in the area who saw any suspicious activity to report it.

At around 11:20 a.m., SERT officers found the suspect hiding inside a vehicle after they noticed foggy windows on the vehicle and thought somebody might be inside. A flash-bang was employed by police and the suspect was taken into custody shortly after. Portland police said there's no further threat to the area.

Sometimes referred to as a stun grenade, a flash-bang produces a bright flash and a loud noise. It's often used to stun or disorient a person without causing serious injury.

Portland police said it's unclear if the suspect was armed.

PPB handed the suspect over to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office (CCSO). A CCSO spokesperson said he'll be interviewed and taken to jail. After that happens, CCSO said it will release more information, including charges for the suspect.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information is made available.
