Salem towing company is focus of stolen vehicle investigation

A stolen vehicle investigation led to authorities searching three properties associated with Gone Towing.

SALEM, Ore. -- A stolen vehicle investigation led to authorities searching three properties associated with a Salem towing company.

“That’s concerning,” said neighbor Sonia Romero.

The properties raided by Oregon State Police were on Broadway Street NE, Market Street NE and West Stayton Road in Marion County.

“Throughout the morning more and more police showed up,” said Mike Winner, who lives near the Broadway Street NE property.

Detectives say all three properties are associated with Gone Towing. The company is the focus of a stolen vehicle investigation.

“There were police in and out all day long,” said neighbor Merl Mack. “They were towing tow trucks.”

KGW has learned Gone Towing was originally founded and owned by Michael Alan Selmer. He is no stranger to law enforcement. Back in 2008, Selmer was accused of impersonating first responders. Our news partner, the Salem Statesman Journal, reports Selmer has also been convicted of vehicle theft and sex abuse, but it is unclear if he is part of this new stolen vehicle investigation.

Regardless, neighbors who live near the raided properties are not surprised it has come to this.

“When I saw them here today, I knew that whatever was going on was getting a stop put to it,” said Mack. “I was grateful.”

As we learn more about this investigation we will update this story.
