PORTLAND, Ore. — Two Portland police officers were injured on Interstate 205 late Tuesday night when their SUV was struck by a driver suspected of being under the influence. Both officers were hospitalized, but were treated and then released Wednesday morning, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

The driver who struck the police vehicle was also hospitalized and later released, and has been arrested on charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants. Investigators believe impairment was a factor in the crash, police said. Brent W. Bussell, 48, was booked in Multnomah County jail.

The crash was reported at 11:18 p.m. on I-205 near Southeast Market Street, police said. The police SUV was rear-ended while blocking a lane of the freeway to give a tow truck room to hook up another car. The PPB Major Crash Team responded to the scene, resulting in the freeway being temporarily closed south of Southeast Division Street during the investigation.

Police did not release any information about the nature of the injuries of the two officers or the driver who crashed into them, other than saying all three were treated at hospitals and released.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to email the Traffic Investigations Unit at crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov and reference case number 24-17712.
