Man shot woman, then himself with pellet gun in domestic violence incident, Yamhill County Sheriff's Office says

The man was airlifted to a trauma center for medical treatment, while the woman was also transported to a nearby hospital. Deputies arrested a third person.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A man in McMinnville shot a woman with a pellet gun and then shot himself in a domestic violence dispute Thursday evening, the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office said. 

A caller reported hearing gunshots and people yelling that someone may have been shot in the head near a home along Southeast Riverside Loop. When deputies arrived, they found that a man had shot a woman in the back of the head with a pellet gun and then turned the weapon on himself.

The man was initially transported to a local hospital, but then airlifted to a trauma center for medical treatment. The woman was also transported to a nearby hospital.

On Saturday, Michael John Morgan, 22, was arrested on charges relating to the pellet gun incident after receiving medical care. he is faced with second-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon.

Yamhill County Search and Rescue later found the weapon, a hand-pump pellet gun, in a field near the home.

Authorities determined the incident involved domestic violence between household members and that there were multiple assaults committed, including someone getting hit in the head with a piece of lumber. 

Amy Morgan, 60, was arrested and taken into custody on two counts of fourth-degree assault, one constituting domestic violence. 

The case remains under investigation, according to the Yamhill County Sheriff's Office.
