PORTLAND, Oregon — Police officers found a man dead following a reported assault Monday afternoon in Northeast Portland's Kerns neighborhood.

Officers responded to the assault around 12:10 p.m. on Northeast Buxton Street, near Northeast 26th Avenue. Police found a man unresponsive and provided him with medical aid, but he died. His name and cause of death have not yet been released.

"All individuals connected to this incident are accounted for," the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said.

Elizabeth Lewis, who lives nearby, said she heard two people arguing and a woman screaming shortly before Portland police arrived.

"It's nerve wracking and it’s just been getting worse and that’s really scary," said Lewis, whose lived in the neighborhood for the last three years.

PPB's Homicide Unit is investigating. Police have not said whether anyone was arrested and facing charges. The agency has not released any additional information about the assault or the man's death.

The neighborhood where the assault happened was closed for more than four hours, before reopening again, a little after 4 p.m. Monday afternoon.
