SILETZ, Ore. — A man was detained after reporting his mother dead in Siletz near the Oregon coast Tuesday night. The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is investigating the woman's death as a homicide.

Deputies responded around 9:27 p.m. to East Logden Road after Robert B. Poe, 56, reported that his mother, 79-year-old Judy D. Poe was dead. The deputies found her near a vehicle and confirmed her to be dead at around 9:55 p.m. She had "injuries consistent with homicidal violence," the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies later detained Robert B. Poe and placed him in custody at the Lincoln County Jail. After questioning, he now faces charges of murder in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office said that attentive neighbors in Siletz who reported suspicious activity helped deputies to respond. Oregon State Police, the Newport Police Department and the Lincoln City Police Department are helping with the investigation, which is still ongoing.

Deputies asked that anyone with information contact Sergeant Jason Spano at 541-270-5067 or jspano@co.lincoln.or.us, and reference case number 24S-04261.

This is a developing story and it may be updated when more information becomes available.
