Trespassing suspect arrested after fleeing, attempting to stab Oregon City police officer

The 23-year-old suspect was booked in the Clackamas County Jail for attempted aggravated murder.

OREGON CITY, Ore. — A man has been arrested after police say he trespassed at a pair of businesses, ran through traffic armed with a knife and attempted to stab a police officer in Oregon City on Saturday.

Officers responded to a report of trespassing at the Jiffy Lube on Beavercreek Road around 12:48 p.m. The suspect, 23-year-old Adonai Gabriel-Escamilla, was reported to be trespassing earlier in the day at the same location.

"Once he left that business, he entered the roadway and was walking through traffic," said Sergeant Kevin Carlson of the Oregon City Police Department.

When officers tried to get him to stop, police said Gabriel-Escamilla had a knife and attempted to stab an officer before he fled into Gnome Grown on Beavercreek Road with customers inside, generating a large response.

"It was a rapidly evolving situation involving a suspect that was both armed and fleeing... and he ran into a business," Sergeant Carlson added.

After leaving the business, officers attempted to close traffic to contain Gabriel-Escamilla, who eventually dropped his knife and was arrested at Beavercreek Road and Highway 213

Gabriel-Escamilla was transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Oregon City Police did not say how he was injured. After being discharged from the hospital, he was booked into the Clackamas County Jail for attempted aggravated murder, according to jail records.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Gladstone Police Department assisted Oregon City police.

The Clackamas County Major Crimes team is investigating. Anyone who has video of the incident can call the Oregon City police tip line at 503-905-3505, referencing OCPD case #24-007805.
