Portland police found Philip Pierce, 37, dead from a gunshot wound inside a home along Southeast Sun Crest Drive.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Officers found a man dead inside a home on Friday morning and the death is being investigated as a homicide, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reported.

On Monday, PPB identified the man as 37-year-old Phillip Pierce. The Medical Examiner determined that Pierce was killed by a gunshot wound.

A missing person was reported to police around 8:45 a.m. Friday in the Lents neighborhood.

"After an extensive effort to locate him, officers developed information that the man may be inside the locked and secured home," PPB said.

Officers forced entry into the residence on Southeast Sun Crest Drive near 92nd Avenue to check on the man and found Pierce dead. Investigators said there were suspicious circumstances at the scene that led to homicide detectives being notified.

Police have not made an arrest. They said it was not a random act.

"Detectives do not believe there is an articulable danger to the community," PPB stated.

Neighbor Sonia Bouchard, who saw police cars at the scene for hours, said that she's not overly concerned about the safety of the neighborhood.

“He seems like he was in his working outside a lot on cars and motorcycles, but they kept to themselves; they didn’t interact with the neighbors too much,” she said. "I just think it’s probably just a very individual situation."

This is the seventh reported homicide this year in the city of Portland.

Anyone with information about this homicide is asked to contact Detective Brad Clifton at Brad.Clifton@police.portlandoregon.gov or (503) 823-0696, or Detective Calvin Goldring at Calvin.Goldring@police.portlandoregon.gov or 503-823-0256. Please reference case number 24-19762.
