Police identify woman killed in hit-and-run crash on I-5 off-ramp in Portland

Officers found a woman dead on the southbound I-5 off-ramp to North Broadway late April 2, Portland police said.

PORTLAND, Oregon — A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash on the Interstate 5 off-ramp near the Moda Center on April 2, according to Portland police.

Portland police identified the woman as Rachelle L. Schaefer, 55, on Monday.

Officers responded just after 11 p.m., April 2, to the southbound I-5 off-ramp to North Broadway. They found a woman in the road who appeared to have been hit by a vehicle. The woman was dead and the driver had taken off, Portland police said.

The Portland Police Bureau Major Crash Team is investigating. The southbound I-5 off-ramp to North Broadway/Moda Center was closed but has reopened.

Portland police ask anyone with information to send an email to crimetips@police.portlandoregon.gov with the title Traffic Investigations Unit and reference case number 24-81009.
