Former Oregon youth coach sentenced to prison for sex abuse

Dakota Wayne Harless was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to three counts of second-degree sexual abuse.

BEND, Ore. (AP) - A former lacrosse coach in central Oregon was sentenced to 18 months in prison after authorities say he engaged in sexual relationships with teenage girls under his authority.

The Bulletin reports 24-year-old Dakota Wayne Harless was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to three counts of second-degree sexual abuse and no contest to a sodomy charge.

The Redmond youth coach was initially indicted on 23 charges stemming from his relationships with four victims ages 14-16. The charges were reduced under a plea agreement reached with prosecutors.

Harless told the court that he regrets his actions, and he has made changes in his life.

Harless was also sentenced to five years of post-prison supervision, and he will be required to register as a sex offender.
