Man arrested after standoff with Beaverton police

The man barricaded himself inside a home in the Progress Ridge area. He took out a gun after some sort of disagreement with people in the home, police said.

BEAVERTON, Ore. — Beaverton police arrested a man armed with a gun who barricaded himself inside a home in the Progress Ridge neighborhood for more than six hours.

A man who lives in the home told KGW that it started Monday evening when his roommate invited a man over. Beaverton police said there were five people inside the home at the time, and there was some sort of disagreement or an argument, then the suspect took out a gun. Everyone inside the home was able to run out, but the suspect stayed inside.

Beaverton police responded and called in the SWAT team to surround the house. Officers fired tear gas inside to try to get the man to come outside, and at one point, he was on the roof of the house.

Officers arrested the man around 1 a.m. on Tuesday. Beaverton police have not identified him, but said he is being charged with unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and felon in possession of a firearm. They also said he had a felony warrant.

This is a developing story and it may be updated when more information becomes available.
