PORTLAND, Ore. — This time of year a lot of people are looking for something creepy (and fun) to do.
One family-run attraction to consider is the Underhill Haunted House at Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum.
There are three haunted houses under the umbrella of the Underhill Haunted House. The first, is Victorian-themed. Clowns and infectious diseases are the themes for the other two haunted houses.
This weekend, starting on Friday, Kids Monster Fest kicks off for children 12 and under. Monster Fest for the kids happens in the afternoon and fun for older kids and adults starts at night.
Ira and Christina Kortum are the minds behind Underhill Haunted House. Although, if you catch them at Underhill, they’re no longer married, and no longer named Ira and Christina. Ira transforms into an ominous character named, The Caretaker. Christina becomes Madame Underhill. Both are Portlanders who work in the film industry.
In fact, Christina did special effects makeup for the show 'Grim', which was filmed in Portland. Her husband, Ira, also worked on the show doing set construction. Some of the materials used at Underhill Haunted House were used on 'Grim'.
The books seen in the library portion of the haunted house are from the show 'The Librarians'.
Proceeds from Underhill Haunted House go to the Twilight Theater Company, a nonprofit in North Portland that tries to help make theater and acting more accessible to people.
Underhill Haunted House will remain open through Halloween.
