Red wine and naps: 109-year-old Curtis Tigard shares his secret

Curtis Tigard turned 109 years young today!

TIGARD, Ore. -- Curtis Tigard turned 109 years young today!

If the name sounds familiar, it's because he's the grandson of Wilson Tigard, the namesake for the city of Tigard.

The father and grandfather is a World War II veteran and served 20 years in the Army Reserves. He was very active in his younger years, having climbed Mt. Hood 35 times.

His family says his secrets to longevity are red wine and naps.

"When he used to work, he used to take naps when he would come home at lunchtime and even when he was working at the bank during lunch hour he'd take a nap there," his son David said.

He played golf until he was 103 and drove his car until he was 107, that's when he decided he didn't need to drive it anymore and sold it. Nowadays he enjoys reading and of course, naps!

If you'd like to celebrate with Curtis, there is another celebration Saturday afternoon at the John Tigard House at 14601 SW 103rd Ave. in Tigard from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
