Popular coffee chain Stumptown Coffee Roasters invests in downtown Portland

The local coffee chain's new location opened in downtown Portland this weekend: "We really believe in this city coming back."

PORTLAND, Ore. — Stumptown Coffee Roasters has locations across the city and just opened up a new coffeehouse this weekend in Southwest Portland. The coffee chain intentionally selected the location as a thank you to the community that stuck with them throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We have stuck it out through COVID and beyond," said Sarah Johnson, the area manager at Stumptown Coffee Roaster. "We really believe in this city coming back and so that's why when it was time to pick our newest location, we decided we were going to stick with downtown Portland."

The coffee company held many events this week to celebrate the grand opening. They teamed up with SOLVE, an environmental nonprofit to host a clean-up, inviting Portlanders to pick up trash from their coffee shop at Southwest 3rd Avenue to their new location at The Residences at 11W building on Southwest Washington Street.

"A lot of us are just happy to get out and invest our time back into the community," said Blaine Porth-Henderson, a volunteer.

Many volunteers said they are noticing a slow turnaround for downtown Portland, expressing their excitement to see the area more clean and on the path to revitalization.

"We're really starting to have a variety of resources, businesses, multi-family environments in this neighborhood," Porth-Henderson said. "It's so great to see all the growth happening and taking place."
