Hundreds at Tualatin High vigil for Fla. victims

Attendees also called on lawmakers to make schools safer by passing stricter gun laws.

TUALATIN, Ore. – Hundreds attended a candlelight vigil at Tualatin High School on Monday night in honor of the victims of last week’s shooting at a Parkland, Florida high school.

Attendees called on lawmakers to make schools safer by passing stricter gun laws.

"I think it's really important that we come together as a community to focus on prevention and unity to prevent any tragedy like what happened in FL to happen in our community," said Tualatin High School junior Ella Hillier.

The vigil, organized by parents, was held at the school’s football stadium.

"I want all kids to be safe, not just here, I want the world to make our children safer (5) I want our government to make our children safer, I want people to get angry about it and start talking about it and stand up for change," said parent Becky Chamseddine.

A message from Tigard-Tualatin Superintendent Ernie Brown said the vigil was organized to honor the victims, identify ways to improve student safety and help the local community heal.
