PORTLAND, Ore. — Oregonians are being treated for pain, high blood pressure and depression in high numbers, according to data the state released last week on prescription drugs.

The Department of Consumer and Business Services issued the first report under the state’s new Drug Price Transparency Program, including the top 25 most costly and most prescribed drugs. The information is compiled from lists submitted by health insurers.

There is no overlap between the most costly and most prescribed lists, implying that the rarer conditions are responsible for the lion’s share of spending. These include rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis.

The most prescribed, which we bring you today, tend to be for more common conditions.

DCBS did not list the exact number of prescriptions of each — but the No. 1 most prescribed also happens to top yet another list. According to the Oregon Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, Oregon doctors wrote 1.4 million prescriptions for this drug.
