PORTLAND, Ore. — Restaurants come, restaurants go.

Actually, restaurants tend to go a lot: A 2014 study by Salt Lake City-based The Perry Group revealed that while most restaurants close within their first year, as many as 70 percent that do make it past that mark subsequently close within three years.

That convention means that any survey of "favorite restaurants," such as the poll the Business Journal annually takes, tends to include many old favorites. That's mostly true in our 2019 survey, with a few exceptions.

Specifically, PBJ readers' list of favorite eateries included three newcomers to the overall top 10. Just five were welcomed to the full top 25 fold for the first time.

Also of note: Last year's No. 2 favorite restaurant fell 11 slots. The biggest upward gain came from the eatery that assumed that No. 2 slot, an Italian establishment that had previously ranked 10th.

The Business Journal will be, in the coming weekdays, spotlighting restaurants that fared best in our survey in terms of service, ambience, the healthiness of the menu and the restaurant's ability to provide a top-notch business lunch.
