May 21 Oregon Primary Election

Oregon has a primary election on May 21, 2024, where Oregonians will be able to cast their vote, by party, for a presidential nominee ahead of the November general election. Oregon's congressional districts, secretary of state, state treasurer, attorney general, state senate, state supreme court and local races of interest, like Multnomah County district attorney, will also be on the ballot.

The Portland mayor and city council races will not be on the May primary ballot due to the charter transition. If the old system was still in place, the mayor and two commission seats would be on the primary ballot. Those races will now appear only on the general election ballot in November, using ranked-choice voting.

The deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation is April 30 - Oregon has a closed primary system, so voters who want to vote in the Democratic or Republican primary must be registered as a member of that party by the deadline - and ballots will be mailed out for the primary election starting May 1.
