PORTLAND, Ore. – A multi-vehicle pileup that included a burning car-hauler closed northbound Interstate 5 near Wolf Creek, in between Roseburg and Medford, on Friday afternoon.
Traffic was backed up for 10 miles before one lane was reopened at around 7 p.m. Oregon Department of Transportation told drivers to still expect long delays.
Oregon State Police said an initial crash earlier in the day caused a backup at milepost 66 but the pileup happened at milepost 71 when two commercial vehicles didn't slow down in time and hit the stopped vehicles.
One of the commercial vehicles was a car-hauler and it caught fire. In all, five passenger cars and four commercial vehicles were involved in the crash.
The crash caused significant damage to the road's surface, ODOT said.
OSP said a few people had minor injuries. They were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
