Temperatures expected to climb above 80 in Spokane by end of week

Warmer and drier weather is on the way in Spokane, with temperatures in the 80s by the end of the week.

SPOKANE, Wash — The sunshine we saw on Sunday is giving way to clouds and showers for Memorial Day on Monday.

Because of the wet weather, temperatures will be topping out a little bit cooler, in the mid to upper 60s in Spokane.  Look for light rain, mainly in the afternoon and evening, with rainfall amounts of 0.10 inches or less.

We'll start to dry out on Tuesday, with only a few lingering showers across the Idaho Panhandle.  The warming trend will start on Tuesday as well.  With partly cloudy skies, we'll see highs in the low 70s.

By the end of the week it will feel like summer!  This year's first 80-degree temperatures are expected on Thursday and Friday.  The last time we saw highs of 80-plus degrees at the Spokane Airport was way back on Sept. 7, 2019.  The warmest we've been so far this year has been 78 degrees back on April 29.

Though the warm weather will continue into the upcoming weekend, the area may be primed for some thunderstorm activity on Saturday and Sunday.  We'll be keeping an eye out for the potential of some strong storms.
