PORTLAND, Ore. -- The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday for the Portland area and the Willamette Valley.

Steady south to southwest winds will be 20 to 30 mph, with gusts 40 to 50 mph.

Expect a wet commute to work and a wet commute home from work Monday as the rain transitions to frequent showers through the day.

"Portland metro rainfall has already reached .30 inches overnight," Hill said. "Look for heavy daytime showers, followed by increasing rain this evening."

As the front passes through, the snow level will drop below the Cascade passes Monday afternoon.

A High Wind Warning is in effect for the coast Monday, with southwest wind gusts from 50-80 mph possible. High seas will build to 25 feet.

Wind Warning at the coast until 6pm, Wind Advisory for the valley until 7pm. Lightning strikes detected near shore and over the Coast Range this morning.
