VANCOUVER, Wash. — Vancouver’s Spencer Tibbits will play his first professional golf tournament this week, and it’s a big one.

He qualified for the 119th U.S. Open, being played at Pebble Beach in California.

“I’m very, very happy I was able to make it through and play my first major championship,” said Tibbits.

Tibbits started playing when he was 3 years old and got his first lessons through The First Tee development organization. He’s now a member of the Oregon State University golf team.

Tibbits said it’s always been his dream to play professional golf.

When the U.S. Open starts on Thursday, Tibbits will be in the last threesome that tees off at 2:42 p.m.
