The Seattle Seahawks fell to 4-5 after losing to the Rams in Los Angeles 36-31 on Sunday. They are now 0-2 against L.A. on the season.

The Seahawks got off to a scorching hot start, scoring easily on their first drive after Russell Wilson found tight end Nick Vannett in the end zone. The defense allowed Los Angeles to answer right away, however, making it 7-7 early in the quarter.

Seattle’s second drive belonged to rookie Rashaad Penny, who burst through the Rams defense for a 38-yard run and an 18-yard touchdown run shortly after. He finished the game with 12 carries for 108 yards, far and away the best game of his young career.

Seattle and Los Angeles continued to trade points throughout the game, and with just under 6:00 minutes remaining the Seahawks were down five and had the ball. Unfortunately, a fumble by Wilson was recovered by Dante Fowler and gave the Rams the ball on the nine-yard line, where they scored easily and pushed the lead to 12.

Seattle marched back and punched in a touchdown on a pass to running back Mike Davis, making it a five-point game with just under two minutes to go. They got the ball back, but their final drive fell just short after Wilson’s fourth and 10 pass went over the head of Tyler Lockett.

The Seahawks finished with 273 yards on the ground and 176 in the air, but their defense was unable to stop Jared Goff and the Rams. Goff threw for 318 yards and two touchdowns, completing 28 passes – 10 which went to Brandin Cooks.

Bobby Wagner led Seattle’s defense with 13 combined tackles, and Quinton Jefferson had his first solo sack of the season.

Seattle won’t have much time to recover from this heartbreaking loss, as they’ll host the Green Bay Packers at CenturyLink Field on Thursday at 5:20 p.m. PT.
